About Flag Identifier

Flag Identifier is a free identification tool for answering “What is this flag?”, not a scored quiz. Use a photo or a written description when you encounter a flag you do not recognize.

Suggestions can include national, regional, historical, organizational, and other flags. The tool is not limited to the country collection used in our games.

The AI may suggest up to three candidates, explaining the colors, shapes, or symbols that support each one. Qualitative confidence is an assessment, not a measured probability.

Blurry images, uncommon designs, and similar flags may produce uncertain or unknown results. Check important identifications against reliable references; no tool can identify every flag.

No account is required. The default allowance is three identifications per IP per UTC day, shared by people on the same network. Submitted content is processed by OpenRouter and its model provider; this site does not persist the original image or description.

What This Flag Identifier Can Help With

A practical starting point for researching an unfamiliar flag, with explanations to review rather than an answer to accept blindly.

Image, description, or both

Choose a PNG or JPEG image, describe the colors and symbols, or combine them. Selecting a file does not call the AI; identification starts only when you press Identify Flag.

Beyond national flags

Candidates may include regional, historical, organizational, and other flags, rather than only countries from the game. Unfamiliar or ambiguous designs can remain unidentified.

Clues you can check

Review the suggested name, category, associated place or organization, and supporting visual clues. Alternative candidates and qualitative confidence help you see where further research is needed.

No account required

Use the tool in your browser with a default three-attempt daily allowance per IP, resetting at midnight UTC. People sharing a network share this allowance, and a site-wide daily cap may also limit availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I identify a flag without a photo?

Yes. Describe its colors, stripes, layout, symbols, and any useful context. You can also combine a description with a photo. Avoid adding personal or sensitive information.

Which flag types can it suggest?

National, regional, historical, organizational, and other flags are supported categories. The AI is not restricted to our game’s country list, but coverage and accuracy are not guaranteed.

What image files are accepted?

Use a non-animated PNG or a JPEG up to 5 MiB. Source images must be no larger than 16,000 pixels per side and 40 megapixels. Your browser converts the image to JPEG with a longest side of at most 1,600 pixels and an upload size of at most 2 MiB. Unreadable images are rejected.

How many free identifications can I make?

The default is three per IP per day, resetting at midnight UTC. People on the same network share the allowance. An unknown result counts as an identification; a site-wide daily cap can temporarily stop new requests. Your remaining allowance is shown only after the server returns it.

Is the AI result certain?

No. Confidence labels are qualitative judgments, not statistical probabilities. Similar, historical, fictional, or unclear flags may be uncertain or unknown. Verify a suggestion with reliable sources before relying on it.

What happens to my image and description?

Content is sent only when you submit, and is processed through OpenRouter and its model provider. This site does not persist original images or descriptions, and the identification panel is masked from session recording. Third-party retention policies may apply; do not upload sensitive content.
